Christmas Day

Here is today’s reflection by Gaby.

When my daughter started a new school we were quite concerned as we had had no notice about it and she had to start that day. A small girl came up to us and sang the Bob Marley song called “Three little birds… Don’t worry about a thing, Cause every little thing’s gonna be alright…”

There was so much comfort from having that song sung to us.

Do you know this Christmas Day that’s the message I want you to know… everything is going to be all right.

How do I know that… let me tell you another story…

There were some shepherds who had a really boring life…all they had to do was to move the sheep around… you didn’t have to be very special, very clever or very anything to be a shepherd… in truth the sheep do a lot of the work themselves… you just have to stop them from being really stupid…

So these shepherds were there in the middle of the night watching that the sheep didn’t do anything crazy like get eaten or fall off a cliff…

And suddenly one angel appeared to them… and then the glory of the Lord appeared to them… which |I imagine was like a lot of light and heat and beauty… and this angel said:
Don’t be afraid for I bring you good news of great joy…

This Christmas we all want good news and great joy right… but the best thing about this news was that it is good news and joy that lasts forever…

No toy or gift that you get today will give you joy that lasts forever…

The angels goes on… for unto you a child is born, a saviour who is Christ the lord…

Jesus was being born and his birth was the best news… his birth meant that even when things don’t seem alright they are.

Global warming… God’s got it in hand

COVID… Jesus is on top of it…

Brexit… who even remembers what that was… Jesus knows the plans he has for us all and they are all good news.

Christmas turkey not quite cooked… don’t worry… Jesus will help.

The angels told the shepherds where to find Jesus and then enter a ton more angels…

This baby that was born is eternally good news and Jesus’ birth, his life, his death and his rising from the dead all add up to make good news for us that overshadows all the bad news.

And I want to tell you now that you don’t need to worry about anything this Christmas Day because Jesus has it all in hand… every little thing is going to be all right.

A friend of mine died in hospital for a few minutes but was quickly brought back to life. He told me that he entered the presence of God and he had this amazing feeling of peace and that he knew everything was going to be OK.

Let’s pray that we too have that gift of peace today that we can all trust that everything is going to be OK. Like the angel said Do not be afraid!

Come holy Spirit.

There will be a video version of the service.
