This will be less formal than a service, providing space for individuals to meet with God or to seek ministry with members of the healing prayer team. It will run from 5.30pm until about 7.30pm, please feel free to ‘drop in’ during this time.

‘Everybody Welcome’ is a training course that looks at how everyone in the church can help newcomers become fully integrated into church life. It’s a one-day training course, with lunch, and there’s lots of opportunity for teaching, discussion and action!
Please contact Vicky if would like to be a part of the course:
Back to Church Sunday
Sunday, 26 September
‘Back to Church Sunday’ is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism—that we should invite someone we already know to something we love; invite our friend to our church.
We will be giving out invitations at Kingsdown Homegrown for people to come to St Matthew’s and there will be invitations available in the foyer for you to take to friends, neighbours and work colleagues.
Church Prayer Meeting
Monday, 27 September @ 8.00pm
This evening upstairs in the Church.
Do come and pray and be inspired by God.
Alpha Launch Evening
Thursday, 30 September @ 7.30pm
At the Ark.
Have you invited someone but they’re just not sure about Alpha? Would you like the opportunity to invite someone to a ‘no-commitment’ find out more session?
This evening is an opportunity to hear from others who have done the course, ask questions, and get a flavour for what the course is like.
Creativity in Worship Day
Saturday, 2 October @ 10.00am
A day for all those interested in developing our creative approach to worship here at St Matthew’s, led by Tracey and Richard Wheeler.
This will involve the opportunity to bring your own ideas, as well as to look at the range of media that could be used to draw adults as well as young people into worshipping God together. It is suitable for anyone who wishes to explore using creative gifts to further our worship – in particular the use of words and images. It would be useful for those who want to lead intercessions in new and inspiring ways.
The exact content will depend on who attends, but the day will run from 10am–3pm and will include lunch.
Please let Tracey Wheeler know if you are thinking of coming, as this is important for both content and practicalities.
Community Launch of ‘The Ark Project’
Sunday, 3 October
This is an opportunity for the local community to come and find out about the Ark Project and the developing vision and be a part of what is going to happen.
It would be great if as many people from both St Matthew’s and Bristol Christian Fellowship could be a part of the afternoon.
If you are interested in helping with the organisation of the day, and set-up, please speak to Vicky.
Alpha
Thursday, 7 October @ 7.30pm
Starts today.
The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith.
It’s relaxed, low key, friendly and fun with coffee/tea and cake together at the beginning of each session. Listen, learn, discuss and discover. Ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.
Course runs: Thursday 7th October – Thursday 2nd December 7.30-9pm at The Ark
Messy Church
Friday, 8 October @ 4.00pm
Don’t do church? Think again…

Big Dig Day
Saturday, 16 October
St Matthew’s was originally heated by a large coal fired boiler down in the basement. For many years coal was delivered to the cellar via a chute and shovelled into the boiler – hot and thirsty work requiring a constant flow of refreshment in old communion wine bottles. The resultant ash (and empty bottles) were piled up to one side – and the pile grew and grew until one day…an oil fired boiler was installed instead. We are gradually digging out the old ash and rubble to reclaim the cellars.
From about 9.30 am we want as many helpers as possible to help digging, hauling, filling skips, making tea and generally mucking in (with the promise of plenty of muck). There will be jobs for all on the day so please put this in your diary. Bring old clothes! For further information (or if you can get discount on skip hire!) please contact Simon Pugh-Jones.
Women’s Breakfast
Saturday, 23 October @ 8.30am
Following on from a great Women’s Weekend in May, there will be another opportunity for the women of St Matthew’s and their friends to get together for food, fellowship and fun over breakfast.
Our speaker will be Sian Murray-Williams—more details to follow.
