Exciting New Post! (Re-advertised)

After Stewart’s departure the PCC set up a review group to look at our ministry with 0-18s. The major recommendation from this review is that we should seek to appoint a Children’s and Youth Minister to oversee, develop and grow our lively ministry. We are still hoping to fill this vacancy for a September start but have not as yet set a closing date or interview date due to advertising constraints and summer holidays. If you are interested in the post please could you email as soon as possible asking for an application form and indicating availability for the interview and the role. Applications for a post September start will be considered.

This is an exciting development. Thank you for your prayers throughout this process and do continue to pray for God’s leading as we seek the right person and raise further funding.

Christianity from Scratch
Christianity from Scratch

This is an introductory course to Christian faith, which assumes no prior knowledge by those who come along. It aims to give people exposure to the core beliefs, practices and experiences of Christianity.

The next course Starts on the 1st October at St. Matthew’s church.

The course is being run by three local Anglican churches: Cotham Parish Church, St. Matthew’s Church in Kingsdown adn St. Paul’s Church in Clifton. The course will be introduced and facilitated by people who belong to these churches.

Each evening session will being with a meal, then a presentation for about 15–20 minutes, then discussion in groups.  From Session Two we hope to end each evening with a short act of worship (which participants may or may not choose to join). These will vary from week to week in order to give a taster of a wide range of ways and styles that Christians and churches use in worship.  By the end of the course, we hope that everyone will have a clear idea of the key ideas and implications of the Christian faith message, plus some understanding of Christian religious experience and worship.  We also hope that the course will help people to decide for themselves whether the Christian faith is something for them.

If you are interested in the course, or want to know more, please get in touch with either the Revd. Mat Ineson (who’s based at St. Matthew’s—0117 942 4186) or the Revd. Dr. Jennifer Cooper (who’s based at [Off Site]Cotham Parish Church and [Off Site]St. Paul’s Clifton—0117 904 8561).  Their email addresses are or .  You’re also welcome to bring along an interested friend for company if you wish.

Highbury Church Mission Partnership News

The Highbury Church partnership is alive, well and growing. The Partnership was formed by St. Matthew’s, Cotham Parish Church and St. Paul’s Clifton to work together in mission in our area.

We are well on the way to amalgamating our Administration with the formation of the Partnership Office run by Jackie and Tara in the St. Matthew’s building.

We have written and delivered the first Christianity from Scratch Course and look forward to our second course beginning in January (see below).

We share leading and preaching across the partnership churches. Mat and Joyce are going to lead St. Paul’s morning service on November 4th and Christopher Richards and Jennifer Cooper will be at St. Matthew’s during morning and evening respectively on that day. We have regular clergy meetings and we are looking to develop further links in other areas in the coming months and years.

Psalm 133 says, “How very good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity!”.
