A What? In a way a pastorate it is a mini church of 25- 30 people who worship, share and support each other. It is big enough to invite others to (outreach) but small enough for people to be cared for in an effective way. It is also a place where those within it can discover, exercise and develop their gifts in a supportive environment.
What will we do in a pastorate? Eat together, have a time of worship and prayer, a talk and importantly a space to share real things that matter with each other.
Why do we need pastorates? St Matthew’s is growing and we need to make sure people don’t get lost and also new people can be integrated into the life of the church. A Pilot—an extension of the Lord’s house group—is starting soon with the aim to grow others from this, so everyone can belong to one.
What is the time commitment? Pastorates will meet every other week during term time (at a suitable time for members)—in the intervening weeks those who belong to the pastorate it is hoped will go to their house group. It will last 2 hours maximum including food.
