Update on the ‘Ark’ Project
As many of you know we are exploring the possibility of a joint community mission project with Bristol Christian Fellowship in the ‘Ark’ building at the end of St. Matthew’s Rd. Part of this is our collaboration in the Hope 2008 event in July mentioned below.
Please do pray for the leadership group exploring with BCF. Pray for wisdom, discernment and God’s agenda.
The St. Matthew’s representatives on the group are Simon Pugh-Jones, Richard Pendlebury, Vicky Wright and Mat Ineson, and from BCF, Neil, Dave, Graham and Cathy.
Hope 08—‘Creating Hope’
From the 5th–13th July St. Matthew’s and BCF are going to be running a week of events celebrating hope and creativity in the local community called ‘Creating Hope.’ The week will focus around a local art exhibition that will be set up in the ‘Ark’ building (Cotham Road South) and display art that explores the theme of hope. This will invite work from different areas of the community and will be open throughout the day for people to wander, browse and relax.
In the evenings there will be a series of events linked with ‘hope’ including:- ‘Flavours of Hope’—an evening of international food and wine with recipes offered from local restaurants.
- ‘Phrases of Hope’—an evening of live jazz from local jazz musicians including our very own Adam Kishtainy.
- ‘Roots of Hope’—an evening exploring issues around the environment and sustainable living.
- ‘Stories of Hope’—an evening hearing about different projects that are offering hope in our community.
- ‘Rhythms of Hope’—an evening looking at how music can be used to bring hope including special guests ‘Changing Tunes.’
On Saturday 12th there will be a day of creative workshops for all the family and on the evening of Sunday 13th there will a joint St. Matthew’s and BCF evening service in the ‘Ark.’
This is a really exciting opportunity to work in partnership with BCF serving and engaging with our local community.
Of course I want to get involved! What can I do?
There are lots of things that you can be involved in both during the week and in the run-up to it.
- Talk to as many people as you can about the event—spread the word! Flyers will be coming out in the next few weeks so these will need to be handed out.
- Come to the events! Put the week in your diary now.
- Offer art work for the exhibition or encourage any local community groups you know to offer art work.
- Help with the physical setting-up of the gallery.
- Help in the art gallery during the week by talking to people and serving refreshments.
- Help out at evening events with set-up and welcome.
…and much more…
There will be lots of notices about ‘Creating Hope’ in the next few weeks at church so listen out for these.
If you have any questions or offers of help please speak to Vicky Wright or Simon and Jo Awcock or contact the church office.
