Messy Church (Plus)

Don’t do church? Think again…

Try Messy church—a new, exciting way of doing church, once a month after school on Fridays (4-6pm) for families.

See the Messy Church page for more details.

Help would be especially appreciated on the day or with advance food preparation during the week before.

The BIG PLUS this time is that Mat will be licensed as Vicar of St Matthew’s by the Bishop & Archdeacon—Why is this being done? Hasn’t Mat been vicar for the past 7½ years?

Well, legally Mat has been Priest-in-charge of St Matthew’s, at ‘the Bishop’s pleasure’, since September 2007. This was done so that if, as part of reorganising its paid clergy, the Diocese decided that they wanted to join St Matthew’s with another church it could be done easily. St Matthew’s has grown to be of a size where that is not likely so the parish’s status, and therefore Mat’s, will change. Hence he becomes legally ‘the vicar’.

If you can come along to what we believe is the first licensing at a Messy Church in this Diocese—please do.

You’d be welcome to stay for some food afterwards as well.
